Create Instagram Worthy Travel Photos and Videos with Mobile Editing Apps

[Total: 8    Average: 5/5]

One of my favorite things about traveling is the ability to capture moments in time and take them with me, beyond the moment and beyond the trip itself. Something is gratifying about stringing together a few raw clips of your friends hiking in the Alps and putting it to a song that tributes youth. Editing photos and videos offers a unique way to look at moments from our past. It can take an otherwise meaningless clip of our friends laughing and turn it into a montage of our favorite moments with our favorite people. Whether you are a professional content creator or you just like editing photos for fun, check out these ten editing apps that will make your travel photos and videos shine.

Top 10 Editing Apps to Improve Your Travel Photos and Videos

1. VSCO

The VSCO photo editing app is popular with Instagram users in our influencer-filled generation, and for good reason. It’s free to download, with in-app purchases available for various styled presets. Beyond filtering, it offers an array of tools that turn you into a confident mobile photographer. For an annual membership of $19.99, you can access all of VSCO’s filters and editing tools, as well as their new video editing software. Available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

2. Ultralight

Ultralight is a photo editing app that segregates filters based on photograph types, like images of nature or portraits. It’s free, with in-app purchases available. A few unique features of Ultralight that make it stand out are the light beam and scratch overlays. If you’re trying to add a bit of wear-and-tear to your travel photos, these overlays are a perfect way to do so. Available in the Apple App Store.

3. Vue

Vue is a free video editing app that lets you use cinematic filters and ultrawide picture formatting to customize your style. It’s known for its clean and easy-to-use interface, as well as its straightforward editing tools. Available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

4. Quik

Quik is a free video editing app made by GoPro. It’s hard to believe, but you don’t need specifically GoPro video footage to reap the benefits of this app. And it basically does the editing for you. I used to spend hours on iMovie putting together a minute long video. Now, I use Quik, and it means I have more time to make more videos. With the app, you can create great content with just a few taps. Check out this minute long video that took a minute to make using Quik.  Available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

You see George, you really had a wonderful life. Don’t you see what a mistake it would be to throw it away?

5. Huji

Huji Cam, inspired by the late 90s, turns your photos into analog film. It looks like you’re using an actual disposable camera when you open the app. The app is free to download, with in-app purchases available (what else is new.) Add a timestamp or a light leak for an even more timeworn look. Available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

6. Unfold

Unfold is a free photo and video app whose main focus is to help users create compelling and creative Instagram stories. But, you can also use their polaroid frames and other styles for editing original shots as well. Unfold is known for its minimal and elegant styles. Available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

7. Vintage Logo

The vintage logo app is well worth the $1.99 fee if you’re looking to turn your travel photos into branding and marketing content. With this logo maker, you can create professional looking logos, flyers, labels, invitation cards, etc. It offers 4,000+ royalty-free backgrounds, badges, and decoration templates, more than 200 fonts, and 80 vintage, watercolor, and glamour overlays.  It’s perfect for small businesses or freelancers who are looking to complete a personal or organization branding project.  Available in the Apple App Store.

8. VHS Cam

Once upon a time, the VHS Cam app was free. But due to high demand, it’s now a whopping $2.99. Anything over .99 in the App Store is a hard sell for me, especially since this app essentially takes your high-quality video footage and, well, makes it look like a camcorder from the 1980s. But, that’s the charm. I use the VHS Cam app to add a nostalgic element to a short clip or add dimension into a longer travel video. Check out this example below. Available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

9. 8mm

8mm is another video app that uses nostalgia to add dimension to your travel footage. You can buy it for $2.99 in the App Store. 8mm has many vintage and retro filters that can overlay your original footage. It’s as simple as importing the original footage, playing around with different filters and sound effects, and exporting your desired result. Check out this example. Available in the Apple App Store.

10.  CutStory

Have you ever tried to upload a short travel clip to your Instagram story, but were limited by the 15-second time frame? CutStory allows you to upload a video with any time frame, and it cuts the story in 15-second clips, saving each clip to the photo roll in your phone. This means you can upload the 15-second clips to your story and have one coherent video, like this one (this example takes you inside Instagram…you’ll need to sign in to view.) Available in the Apple App Store.
